One of my favorite shows from New York Fashion week for Fall 2009 collection was the Michael Kors show. Kors is well know for his American Sportswear since he launched his line in 1981. But for his Fall 2009 collection he presented us with a very refreshing collection that I absolutely loved .The whole collection was very modern and had everything that us fashionistas are going to need in our wardrobes. Talking about neutral colors, pops of colors (pink, oranges and lime greens) on fox-furs, cashmere sweaters and dresses, sexy high slits which I thought were very sexy, leather cocktail dresses and skirts, and the one- shouldered/ one-sleeved frocks which looked so beautiful and elegant on the models . It seems to me pop culture comes and goes styles die and are then resuscitated about ten years down the line . My take on this year's New York Fall fashion week is a rebirth of the old and and tweaking of the current . But the thing is they are not the main look but merely an amalgam of different styles mashed into one . Take a look at the mens wear, the eighties high tops and hooded hoods are back ,the bright color mixtures and the flashy jewelry accessories , yes Kanye is pushing his eighties retro style aggressively , but we don't think it will catch on pretty fast , the reason being alot of males think its a very soft look, a tard to feminine look in a very hard time(overall). At the same time , dressing and mature clothes are back , suits, bespoke or regular Ready -to -Wear threads are in trend , so it appears to be a throwback to the early fifties when men used to dress for each occasion . We are at a crossroads of fashion where the sixties meets the 70s and the seventies bumping into the eighties and the 90s and the 2000s being squeezed in there .As per womens wear the same seems to be the case last night at the Badgley Mischka show , I was amazed at how modern his evening gowns were , to tell you the truth , I was shocked and refreshed to see (Badgley Mischka) not jumping onto the 80s bandwagon that seems to be the trend .

Yes, if you lived in New York in the 1980s and indulged in the club life of palladium, Bentleys, Area, you could remember the feel good clothes you wore, them yesteryear's. The Big bright colors, the shoulder padded chiffon blouses, the baggy pants with cropped up cotton shirts and the great sports two door Mercedes Benz zipping through Manhattan, that was my idea of the eighties , oh Yes and Gordon Geckos of the ever so eighties wall street movie , that exemplified 80s excess's.But Last night at the Marc Jacobs show , this is almost what he was trying to achieve a little feel good fashion sense in a very dismal economic climate . The show started off with a Gray cardigan sweater and charcoal trousers , but the back was half of a kilt and braces , this told me that Marc Jacobs was at it again .
The girls flowed past us in full skirts and monster shoulders ,velvet bustier tops and high waisted over dyed jeans pans , beautiful bright capes and hooded jackets in an assortment of bright colors , these clothes were almost exclusively east village look with a twitch of Parisian simplicity. Obviously Marc Jacobs misses the New York of yesteryear's ,being that he now resides in Paris , But alas the fun the show generated, I still believe that Marc toned it down a little for this particular show. Is Marc a sensible designer ? is he thinking economic times are hard and he needs to go slow . Hmmm!!!! that's for you consumers and fashionistas to decide.

This was eighties in a big way, the gals were made up in thick mascara eyeliner , reminiscent of Shalamar or Prince's proteges ala VANITY and Apolonia Six or even Sheila E, and British pop group "Five star". I love the eighties and can't wait for the fashionistas to strut in these fine fabrics.Marc Jacobs does it again .

I feel like I have not been on top of my game lately.. but hey am back and I do apologize for taking forever to post wednesday's pictures. So Wednesday I had planned to be at Bryant Park by 10 am right on time for Michael kors show. Apart from feeling a little under the weather there was no way I was gonna miss the show. while inside the Tents of course I noticed Couple of stars being photographed. Among them were Heidi Klum, Joy Bryant and Rachel Zoe sitting next to each other. Michael Kors put up a good show, the music was kicking.

Kors did a combination of navy and white stripes, black and white checks and polka dots one of the best collection for this season so far.



Then I went from seeing Richard Chai, 3.1 Phillip Lim whose collection was eye catching with combination of prints, ruffles, and metallics with accessories — New ruffled Christian Louboutin heels (so hot OMG need them in my life) and polka-dot bags/clutches ...
and my last show was Anna Sui who came up with retro sixty's flavor from pedal pushers, Beaded and embroidered shift dresses to circle skirts with floral and animal prints.
This cute little tube dress with animal prints linafanana sana na kitenge.. angalia jinsi ambavyo vifungu vimepangiliwa vizuri na pia hiyo choker yake ambayo amevaa ambayo imetengenezwwa na shanga. So pretty!

Oluchi was in the house as well sitting next to her husband Luca Luca who was holding their son during the show. I was suprised not to see Oluchi gracing her hubby's runway. I had a chance to speak to her reminiscing about M-Net Face of Africa. Oluchi now has a modelling agency in South Africa .We also posed for the camera kama kawaida.Also during Luca Luca show a model took off her shoes. For some reason viatu vilikuwa vinaonekana vinampwaya so miguu ilikuwa inachomoka akitembea kwa hiyo alivyo ona yamemzidia at the corner of the runway akainama katoa viautu huyo akaendelea na catwalk ..

So they say London Fashion week is all about creativity, Paris is a mother of Couture, Milan its about Romance and when you come to NYC its all commercial. But when Marc Jacobs was preparing his spring 2009 collection I doubt if he was thinking about being all commercial like other designers did. Nobody does it big like Marc Jacob's and this time he killed it.

First of all the show took place at the 26 street armory which has been his staple since 2000, the runway had zigzag mirrors positioned on the center of the runway.The Place was packed with all the industry types from photographers ,paparazzi videographers celebrities and more shabiki (mafans), JLo, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie, Martha Stewart, Kelly Osbourne, were among the A-Listers in the house. The collection was off the chain never seen before.

This season the designer went all out. He brought out the classic turn of the century Americana. The women wore hats from the early 1900 America with blouces and ruffled piled skirts which came in plain colors and plaid patterned mixtures of brown and black and violet. Lastly on the show were the flowing dresses revealing the calvinian American past . Very refreshing that the models wore head Wraps that are akin to what you see women wear the in show "Big Love "( HBO Time Warner) or if you recall the standoff with the polygamous compound in Texas. The long flowing bright colored fabrics ,that hang loosely on the models bodies ,were different and abstract . The turn of the century Hats were equally refreshing Makes for a great fashion throwback to the good old days of American Cinema , with Greta Garbo ,Swede Ingrid Bergman ,Bette Davies coming to mind as Marc Jacob's inspiration . The models accessorized by hanging the fabulously Marc Jacobs Bags. This man never ceases to amaze . Love his work!!!!
I was not able to go to Marc Jacobs after party after the show. Lakini ilikuwa fujo tupu, venue ndogo, mistari miwili mpaka imepotelea kwenye corner. Oh well waliobahatica kuingia waliingia wengine walirudishwa makwao labda kasoro mastaa ambao nao vilevile walikipata cha moto kutokana na kubanana.
